ELASTIC COUPLINGSELASTIC COUPLINGS For torsional torques 0.5 to 3800 daN m, since 40 years, with their consequent improvements they have overcome the performances of the most difficult application fields.
The very simple principle of the GM coupling (in two pieces) and of the GM/3 coupling (in three pieces), executed by two semi-couplings made of top quality spheroidal cast-iron and by the interposition of special synthetic rubber reinforcements (anti-oil and suitable for high temperature uses), allows the compensation of small alignments errors between the connected shafts.
Such errors, arisen from the mounting on non-machined surfaces, by thermic dilatations, by not uniform foundations sagging and by different elasticity of the main structures of the machinery are in this way corrected using the GM couplings.
The rubber reinforcements absorb, within certain limits, sudden shocks and torsional vibrations in the machines where they are installed.
Also with consumed reinforcements it is possible that the machine operates, even in emergency condition, for a short period, thanks to their high hardness and resistance.
The GM coupling are supplied with hole and keyway on request. For speeds over 1500 rpm, starting from types GM40 and GM3/40, it is necessary to make the dynamic balancing.
The same application for speeds over 1000 rpm starting from the type GM 100 and GM 3/100 and following.
  
General rules for the selection of the elastic coupling
 

In the selection table it is clearly indicated, for each type, the transmission capacity of the deflecting torque. In case the machines where they have to be installed are subject to frequent and hard variation of the deflecting torque, it is necessary to operate with a safety factor fs = 1.1 of increase of the torques applied to the transmission.

Please note that our reinforcements can resist to a static pressure of 58 daN per square cm, thus allowing a long operation safety. We therefore suggest to avoid the replacement of the original reinforcements with similar others having a lower load capacity.
